Botox Treatment Of Nasal Flaring
Nasal flaring is due to contraction of two muscles on the face, the levator alae nasi, aided by the procerus. The nostrils tend to flare up in certain situations of anger or emotional upset with an increase in breathing efforts, during mild exercise (to reduce resistance to flow of air), and also as a habit. What is of concern in esthetics is the habitual flaring of the nostrils, said to be more common in women and in Asian as well as Afro-Americans. This habitual or persistent nasal flaring is said to be esthetically less appealing.

Treatment of nasal flare is simple. A unit of Botox (also commonly called Botax) is administered to each side of the nostrils in the region of the levator alae nasi. This can be a rather painful injection so be prepared for some discomfort. The effect of Botox treatment for nasal flaring lasts about 4 to 6 months.
